Workshop 2: Research and Policy

Room A401
Discussant: Edward Melhuish
Moderator: Camilla Wang

In this workshop participants will discuss how we can create a stronger and closer interplay between research, practice and education as an important means to improve quality in the field of day-care and preschooling. We will also discuss how it affects the political impact on the field, regionally as well as nationally.

Based on various research studies, we know that high-quality day-care affects how well children and youths do later in life. On the basis of experiences from the VIDA project, this workshop will also discuss how higher quality in day-care is not dependent on increased efforts in one area only, but requires a generally stronger and closer interaction of research, practice and education. This relation plays a central role in VIDA together with the question of its continued reinforcement in the further development of VIDA, but also how it more generally can be strengthened as an impetus for quality in day-care.

The workshop will be a mix of short presentations about the interplay of education, research and practice together with its implications for day-care policy and structured processes in which the participants actively contribute with ideas for ways to strengthen this interplay.

Workshop seats (50) will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, and registration for a workshop will take place in the morning of the conference, during registration and coffee.
