The Danish School of Education at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as professor in early childhood education and care (ECEC) with particular focus on human development.

The professorship is a full-time, permanent position which begins on 1 August 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is based at DPU campus Emdrup/Copenhagen or Aarhus. The successful applicant will be a part of either the Department of Educational Psychology or the Department of Educational Sociology based at DPU campus Emdrup/Copenhagen or Aarhus.

It is important that the successful applicant takes part in the daily activities of the department, including both teaching and supervising. Since both departments are situated in both Aarhus and Copenhagen, the successful applicant should expect some travel activity between Aarhus and Copenhagen.

The position
The successful applicant will be expected to strengthen research activity and output as well as contributing to the high profile of research within the area of early childhood education and care (ECEC) at Aarhus University.
ECEC studies with particular focus on human development are part of the programme in learning, didactics and innovation in early childhood education and care, which combines elements from cognitive, developmental and learning psychology, the sociology of education, learning environment studies, educational theory and didactics, by means of combinations of both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies (mixed methods). The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange, and to provide academic leadership relating to research, education and academic development.

Research
The successful applicant will be expected to take a leading role in further developing the area of early childhood education and care (ECEC), and to contribute to research initiatives in relation to both the field of early childhood education and care and the general educational community at the Danish School of Education in terms of new research projects with internal and external partners, and external research funding.

Applicants must therefore be able to document original scientific production at the highest international level, as well as significant scholarly contributions to theoretical and thematic developments within early childhood learning, development and education.

Applicants are furthermore asked to state their visions for future developments in the field, and to document a solid track record in research leadership as well as in international research funding and international research cooperation.

It is of vital importance that the successful applicant takes part in the daily activities of the Department of Educational Psychology or the Department of Educational Sociology.

Teaching
The successful applicant will be expected to have solid experience of teaching at university level, and should be prepared to teach and supervise at all levels of the degree programme (MA and PhD) in educational psychology and educational sociology.
The successful applicant will also be expected to be the driving force in developing new degree programmes within the field of education.

Talent development
The professor will be expected to contribute to talent development within the field of early childhood education and care. He/she will be expected to recruit and supervise PhD students as well as teaching and developing PhD courses.

Knowledge exchange
It is expected that the successful applicant will engage in knowledge exchange as mentioned in the strategy for the Faculty of Arts, for instance in research cooperation with private companies, government consultancy, cooperation with civil society actors or the public dissemination of knowledge. Applicants should document any prior experience within the field of knowledge exchange.

Qualifications
The successful applicant must provide research plans and explain how he/she will meet the expectations of the professorship with regard to the strengthening and development of research and teaching in early childhood education, learning and development.
 
The applicant must also be able to document:
• Academic publications at the highest international level, including research innovation in the field of early childhood education and care (ECEC)
• Experience of active participation in international research collaboration
• Experience of research organisation, including the obtaining and administration of external funding in the field of early childhood education and care (ECEC)
• Strong teaching competences and experience of supervising at all levels
• Commitment to teaching development, the supervision of student projects, talent development, research management and the development of PhD courses.

The applicant must be able to teach and publish in English. If the successful applicant cannot speak Danish, she/he will be required to learn Danish within a period of approximately two years.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the department’s academic environment. We emphasise the importance of good working relationships, both among colleagues and with our students.
