The Danish School of Education at Aarhus University invites applications for an assistant/associate professorship in the field of language, mobility and globalisation.

The assistant professorship is a full-time, three-year training position which begins on 1 August 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The associate professorship is a permanent position which begins on 1 August 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is based at DPU campus Emdrup/Copenhagen. The successful applicant will be a part of either the Department of Educational Theory and Curriculum Studies or the Department of Educational Anthropology based at DPU campus Emdrup/Copenhagen or Aarhus.

It is important that the successful applicant takes part in the daily activities of the department, including both teaching and supervising. Since both departments are situated in both Aarhus and Copenhagen, the successful applicant should expect some travel activity between Aarhus and Copenhagen.

The position
We are seeking an innovative and dedicated candidate who will contribute to Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange. The position focuses on aspects of language as social practice, educational theory in linguistically diverse learning sites, and educational mobility. We expect the successful applicant to cooperate with the research environments in literacy, second languages, educational anthropology, linguistic ethnography and mobility at DPU, at both the Department of Educational Anthropology and the Department of Educational Theory and Curriculum Studies. 
Key criteria of the assessment will be the quality of the research output, which is expected to meet international standards, and successful teaching experience at university level within the field of language, communicative practices in multilingual contexts, mobility and globalisation. 

Research
We are looking for a candidate with a research profile in one or more of the following areas:
• Aspects of language as social practice and language as mobile resources
• Educational theory in linguistically diverse learning sites;
• Language practices with special relevance for Danish as a second language;
• Linguistic ethnography;  
• Educational mobility (geographically, culturally, linguistically and socially);
• Academic literacy, diversity and learning in a global context.

Applicants must demonstrate skills in collaborative and interdisciplinary research, as well as skills in empirical, experimental and cross-disciplinary research.

Teaching
The successful applicant will be required to teach existing courses as well as developing new courses related to either the Department of Educational Theory and Curriculum Studies or the Department of Educational Anthropology (which offers graduate degree programmes in both Danish and English, so the successful applicant should be ready and able to teach and supervise in both languages).
Teaching experience will be required in one or more of the following areas:
* Language as social practice and language as a mobile resource
* Educational theory in linguistically diverse learning sites
* Danish as a second language and multilingualism
* Language socialisation
* Linguistic ethnography
* Educational mobility (geographically, culturally, linguistically and socially)
* Academic literacy, diversity and learning in a global context.

The associate professor will be expected to teach and supervise students at all levels (BA, MA and PhD) and contribute to the development and application of innovative teaching methods.

The position involves teaching duties as well as responsibility for the development of courses that encompass the above-mentioned fields of study. This could also include the coordination and leadership of education in the field of Danish as a second language, or compulsory and elective modules on the Danish or English Master’s degree programmes in educational anthropology.

The assistant professor will be obliged to complete a course in university teaching designed especially for assistant professors.

Talent development
The assistant professor will be expected to develop his or her supervision capabilities at MA level.

The associate professor will be expected to contribute to talent development within the fields of language, mobility and globalisation. He/she will be expected to supervise PhD students as well as teaching and developing PhD courses.

Knowledge exchange
It is expected that the successful applicant will engage in knowledge exchange as mentioned in the strategy for the Faculty of Arts, for instance in research cooperation with private companies, government consultancy, cooperation with civil society actors or the public dissemination of knowledge. Applicants should document any prior experience within the field of knowledge exchange.

Qualifications
The successful applicant for the assistant professorship must have a PhD or the equivalent in language, mobility and globalisation, and must be able to document:
• Teaching experience at university level within the field of language, communicative practices in multilingual contexts, mobility and globalisation
• Skills in empirical, experimental and cross-disciplinary research
• An internationally oriented research profile
• A relevant and internationally oriented publication profile
• Experience of or interest in participation in national and international research networks
• Experience of or interest in communication and knowledge exchange
• Experience of interdisciplinary collaboration as well as interdisciplinary research
• Experience of or the potential for obtaining external research funding
• Experience of or interest in interdisciplinary teaching, including innovative teaching methods
• Experience of or interest in supervising student projects and interest in researcher talent development.

The successful applicant for the associate professorship must have a PhD or the equivalent in language, mobility and globalisation, as well as research and teaching qualifications equivalent to those acquired in an assistant professorship, and must also be able to document:
• Research experience in one or more of the areas mentioned above
• Teaching experience at university level within the field of language, communicative practices in multilingual contexts, mobility and globalisation
• Skills in empirical, experimental and cross-disciplinary research
• An internationally oriented research profile
• A strong, relevant international publication profile
• Participation in national and international research networks
• Experience of participation in collective research projects
• Interdisciplinary teaching experience including innovative teaching methods, as well as mastery of academic English in the classroom
• Proficiency in languages relevant to the area of research
• Fieldwork experience in the relevant area of research, for instance in a school context
• Experience of interdisciplinary cooperation
• Experience of attracting external research funding
• Experience of supervising student projects and an interest in researcher talent development.

The applicant must be able to teach and publish in English. If the successful applicant cannot speak Danish, she/he will be required to learn Danish within a period of approximately two years.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the department’s academic environment. We emphasise the importance of good working relationships, both among colleagues and with our students.
