The Department of Education Studies at the Danish School of Education at Aarhus University invites applications for an assistant/associate professorship in public administration with special focus on education administration with a strong methodological profile.

The assistant professorship is a full-time, three-year training position, which begins on 1 August 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The associate professorship is a permanent position, which begins on 1 August 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is based at DPU campus Emdrup/Copenhagen or Campus Aarhus. It is important that the successful applicant takes part in the daily activities of the department, including both teaching and supervising. Since the department is situated in both Aarhus and Copenhagen, the successful applicant should expect some travel activity between Aarhus and Copenhagen.

The position
We are seeking a dedicated candidate who will contribute to Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange. The position focuses on contributing to a new research field covering education administration. The successful applicant will be expected to help further the study of education administration at the department through teaching and research at the highest international level.

Research
We are looking for a candidate with a research profile in public education administration.

The Department of Education Studies emphasises the importance of high-quality research and teaching within the area of education administration. Accordingly, we are looking for a candidate with a strong profile and track record in the study of public education administration, both currently and historically, and with special regard to the polity and institutional settings of education, the public sector and/or society.

Teaching
Key criteria of the assessment will be successful teaching experience at university level within the field of (public)education administration or law, and the quality of the research, which is expected to meet international standards and show the potential for developing a research field covering education administration. In addition, it will be considered an advantage if applicants have specific teaching and/or research experience in public administration, law or the economics of education. 

The successful applicant will have teaching and supervision opportunities at all levels (BA, MA and in the case of associate professorship PhD) and will be expected to contribute to the development and application of innovative teaching methods. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the practice and development of the department’s academic environment, the Research Unit for Education Policy, Governance and Administration, including collaboration with other relevant academic programmes.

We emphasise the importance of good working relationships, both among colleagues and with our students. In case of an associate professorship, it is expected that the applicant can document university pedagogical training or similar experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Public administration
• Economic administration
• Education administration
• The economics of education
• Education and law
• Education and the labour market.

If an assistant professor is appointed he/she will be obliged to complete a course in university teaching designed especially for assistant professors.

Talent development
If an assistant professor is appointed he/she will be expected to develop his or her supervision capabilities at MA level.

If an associate professor is appointed he/she will be expected to contribute to talent development within the fields of education administration. He/she will be expected to supervise PhD students as well as teaching and developing PhD courses.

Knowledge exchange
It is expected that the successful applicant will engage in knowledge exchange as mentioned in the strategy for the Faculty of Arts, for instance in research cooperation with private companies, government consultancy, cooperation with civil society actors or the public dissemination of knowledge. Applicants should document any prior experience within the field of knowledge exchange.

Qualifications
The successful applicant for the assistant professorship must have a PhD or the equivalent in education science, history, economics, law or related fields. The applicant should present his/her visions and plans for the development of education administration at Aarhus University with respect to research and teaching and must be able to document:
• A strong profile and track record in the study of public/education administration, both currently and historically and with special regard to the polity and institutional settings of education, the public sector and/or society
• Methodological insight and the potential for developing social scientific methodologies in education administration
• Relevant and successful teaching experience in one or more of the areas mentioned under the heading “Research”
• An internationally oriented research profile
• A relevant and internationally oriented publication profile
• Experience of or interest in participation in national and international research networks
• Experience of or interest in communication and knowledge exchange
• Experience of interdisciplinary collaboration as well as interdisciplinary research
• Experience of or the potential for obtaining external research funding
• Experience of or interest in interdisciplinary teaching, including innovative teaching methods
• Experience of or interest in supervising student projects, and interest in researcher talent development.

The successful applicant for the associate professorship must have a PhD or the equivalent in education science, history, economics, law or related fields, as well as research and teaching qualifications equivalent to those acquired in an assistant professorship. The applicant should present his/her visions and plans for the development of education administration at Aarhus University with respect to research and teaching and must be able to document:
• A strong, potential profile in the study of public/education administration, both currently and historically and with special regard to the polity and institutional settings of education, the public sector and/or society.
• Methodological insight and the potential for developing social scientific methodologies in education administration
• Relevant and successful teaching experience in one or more of the areas mentioned under the heading “Research”
• An internationally oriented research profile
• A strong, relevant international publication profile
• Participation in national and international research networks
• Experience of participation in collective research projects
• Interdisciplinary teaching experience including innovative teaching methods, as well as mastery of academic English in the classroom
• Proficiency in languages relevant to the area of research
• Research experience in the relevant area
• Experience of interdisciplinary cooperation
• Experience of or the potential for obtaining external research funding
• Experience of supervising student projects, and an interest in researcher talent development.

The applicant must be able to teach and publish in English. If the successful applicant cannot speak Danish, she/he will be required to learn Danish within a period of approximately two years.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the department’s academic environment. We emphasise the importance of good working relationships, both among colleagues and with our students.
